The course consists of two parts:

GIS-Application in Environmental Planning (GIS I)
The first part of the course introduces and expands the fields of data acquisition, analysis and presentation of space-oriented data. Adapted editing of complex space-oriented problems will be performed with interactive constructed functional models of the ModelBuilder. Moreover, open source GIS solutions will be presented. As a new way of data presentation and analysis, 3D-visualization is part of the course.

Landscape Analysis and Assessment (GIS II)
The second part of the course focuses on the shaping of space-oriented geodata. Exercises in the context of environmental analysis and assessment will be arranged. Among other things this includes the assessment of favour and disfavour locations, area-shaping and the analysis of countryside structures. Different raster- and vector-based methods will be applied.

The module enables students to

  • solve independant complex issues concerning Environmental Planning and Analysis with geoinformation systems (GIS)
  • apply GIS as an instrument for landscape assessment, prognoses and visualisation
  • critically estimate potentials and limits of practices and techniques
  • apply techniques in different practical planning instruments
  • identify and formulate new research approaches for environmental planning and analysis with GIS

Remote Sensing

The course consists of two part-modules:

  • Remote Sensing I - Image interpretation
  • Remote Sensing II - Classification of satellite data

Remote sensing data offers a wide range of information. Using this satellite or airborne-based images for environmental planning tasks requires expertise in processing and interpreting the data. Therefore, basic skills about geometrical and physical properties of remote sensing data as well as about methods and algorithms of deriving thematic information and maps will be communicated within this module. The techniques of analogue and digital image interpretation and classification are trained by practical examples from environmental planning.

The goal of this module is to enable students to:

  • apply a selection of methods of analogue and especially digital remote sensing in environmental planning
  • critically estimate potentials and limits of different sensors and analysis methods
  • identify and formulate new research approaches for environmental planning and analysis with remote sensing

Statistics for Environmental Sciences

With this module the basics of applied statistics will be communicated and learned. Beside the achievement of theoretical knowledge the practical application of the software "R" will be learned. After completing the module, students should be capable to employ the methods of statistical analysis in Landscape and Environmental Planning.

Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Bachelor Studenten ab dem 5. Semester und Master Studenten. Sie besteht aus den Teilen:

  • UE "Fallanalysen zur Landschaftsplanung und Umweltprüfung"
  • UE "Umweltplanung mit Geoinformationssystemen"

In der Lehrveranstaltung „Fallanalysen zur Landschaftsplanung und Umweltprüfung“ werden die wesentlichen Inhalte, Methoden und Abfolgen von Planungen, die in den Modulen UP P1 und UP P4 bereits theoretisch und überblicksartig behandelt wurden, durch die Studierenden in Kleingruppen erarbeitet.

In der Lehrveranstaltung „Umweltplanung mit Geoinformationssystemen“ werden anhand eines konkreten Planungsbeispiels, welches inhaltlich in der Lehrveranstaltung „Fallanalysen zur Landschaftsplanung und Umweltprüfung“ bereits erarbeitet wurde, die einzelnen Planungsschritte aus GIStechnischer Sicht betrachtet und umgesetzt. Die Veranstaltung baut dabei auf das Grundlagen-Modul UP P 3 auf.
